Some of the greatest works of literature are transformed into motion picture we explore the greatest stories ever told on screen.

LOVE & ROMANCE

Tales of love are as old as storytelling itself. From Ancient Greek tragedies, to modern bestsellers, Romance has been one of the great genres of literature, and whenever a popular romantic story is brought to the big screen, it’s eagerly anticipated. Heaven help anyone who wishes to take on a book beloved by millions.

ADVENTURES OF A LIFETIME

From the oral tradition of Ancient Greece, to a paperback grabbed at the airport, nothing captures the imagination of children and adults alike more than a great adventure story, and no genre of literature was more tailor-made for film adaptation. Tales of swashbuckling heroes in far-off lands have continued to inspire the most visionary directors in cinema.

CRIME AND PUNISHMENT

Tales of crime grab your attention like little else. The people who inhabit the criminal underworld have always made fascinating literary characters, and who hasn’t imagined themselves as an amateur detective from time to time? When there’s a case to be solved, or a villain’s plan to carry out, we’re all completely hooked.

DYSTOPIA

Do you ever feel like you live in a dystopia? Well, a lot more people would answer yes to that question at the moment, compared to a few years ago.  But for every bad period in human history it feels as if a writer of the past has foreseen it in some way and used that to create the most chilling, fictional genre of all: fiction that has the potential to become tomorrow’s reality. And that makes it perfect for cinematic adaptations years down the line.

The world of dystopian literature begins in a very peculiar place: the island of Utopia as created by the English Catholic martyr, Sir Thomas More. He manufactured the title from Greek terms meaning ‘no where’ or ‘no place’. The island itself is set in the then-recently discovered New World and has a strange social structure without private property, and where privacy in any sense is outlawed. Therefore bars or other places for private gatherings simply don’t exist. The original utopia could very well be the ultimate dystopia for many today. But one phrase from More’s work would surely appeal.

WAR

The literature of war shows us the human side of the passage of history. It's the stories of soldiers, medics, and reporters, the victorious and the defeated, the damaged and the broken. When writers are thrown into the cauldron of battle, some of the most enduring literature of all can come out of the carnage.

And what better subject to bring to the silver screen than the great battlefields of the past?

MYTHS & LEGENDS

The great myths and legends of the world are some of the most beloved literature of all. The tales of dashing heroes and the monsters they face appeal to both children and adults alike, becoming cultural cornerstones all around the globe. Carpet and fire-breathing dragons have always been the most daunting to bring to the big screen, especially in the time before computer effects. Yet many great directors did take on the challenge of bringing legends to life.
