400 Years Taking the Knee picked up by American Public TV for Black History Month

1st February 2021

Patricia Hickey, 3DD’s Head of Sales & Co-Production said “Eric Luskin, APT and I closed the deal on zoom. 3DD have built a larger relationship with APT over the years, and we felt his was the natural home for this programme, with many markets in the states embracing this timely piece of African, European and American history and perfect for the traditional Black History month in February.”

This 90-minute special brings to life an urgent and lucid narration of some of the most important stories of black resistance over 400 years since the inception of the Slave Trade. Yet it does not belong only to the hinterland of history; it is also firmly situated in the present day – with Colin Kaepernick’s symbolic ‘taking the knee’ at its heart – it speaks to events happening in the twenty-twenties and to the many legacies and continuations of these historic forms of oppression. In this sense, it is truly a generation and epoch-spanning series, taking continents in its stride, picking tales from both sides of the Atlantic: from the Blue Mountains of eastern Jamaica, the Georgian London, to the New Jersey Pines, to the Gold Coast of Africa. In today’s world, this programme serves as an extremely useful primer for those seeking to better understand the contexts of struggle and oppression in black history. These contexts are unfolded here through a focus on some of the great figures of black resistance and emancipation, whose stories of heroism continue to inspire and embolden people the world-round today.

The Cold War and Cinema

31st January 2021

Following the popular WWII & Cinema, filming for the follow up series, The Cold War & Cinema has nearly wrapped and will begin post-production shortly. Produced in association with Sky Arts, this Sky Original takes a world-opening dive into the relation between history and the arts in the latter 20th century, the series is hosted by Ian Nathan, author and co-contributing editor, Empire , with major contributions from film critic, Derek Malcom, and author & Daily Telegraph columnist, Simon Heffer. In three episodes the series tells an epic story, reflecting on the era’s endemic fears and hopes & the films industry role in this huge period. The tale is one of virulent propaganda, upheaval in US society, brutal policing, spy games and international espionage; of the CIA, KGB, and MI5, of nuclear dread and belief in impending apocalypse, of the Berlin Wall and the Iron Curtain, and of privation and plenty. Our experts will discuss the history of the era and its film industry, both as it was then and as it continues to underpin movie making and politics to this day. This is an unmissable take on the intertwining of life, art, and politics in the twentieth century.

Murder_on_the_Railway (003).jpg

Delivery is complete for The Railway Murders, with six thrilling new stories now available.

15th January 2021

The scene of the ever-enchanting, ever-mystifying British railway is explored by host Nicholas Day (Murder MapsMyths and Monsters) as he relates some of the railway’s great tales of deceit, terror, and cruelty for BBC’s UKTV. Under Queen Victoria, the railways spread across Britain like arteries – veins of new possibility stretching into the furthest corners of the country. Town to town, city by city and sleeper by sleeper, the rails created new stories and lives for Britain. But they also spawned new horrors. A new kind of murder was now possible.

In this series, we’ll be investigating the most notorious murders ever to take place on the British railways, unearthing stories of the men who killed, of the police who hunted them, and of the victims, and those left behind. The files of Scotland Yard, to the offices the Railways Police; from the mountains, ,to the valleys, down to the seashore, brings this history of blood on the tracks in Britain.

DOTUN ADEBAYO EXPLORES TAKING THE KNEE, RESISTANCE & THE SACRIFICE

27th August 2020

400 Years: Taking The Knee
At 6.00pm on Wednesday June 3rd, 2020, Dotun Adebayo and his family and many thousands of people across Britain 'took the knee' for 8 minutes, the length of time it took a policeman to kill George Floyd in Minneapolis. When he lifted his bowed head he saw the woman across the road on one knee in solidarity. Did she, a white woman, get it? Did he, a black man, get it, he wondered. Where did this symbol of submission/resistance come from and where was it going? In this two-part series Dotun narrates the many stories of black resistance to oppression, from the Jamaican national hero Nanny of the Maroons, to the NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick whose decision to 'take the knee' cost him his job but triggered a worldwide movement.
